Mountain Climbing

Welcome to Victor Safaris, people who love adventure. As you prepare for this breath-taking and specialist
adventure of your life time, kindly remember to equip yourself well for this hiking adventure with the following gears.

Head Gear
- Balaclava or hooded wollen or fleece hat
- Sunglasses
- Sun cap or hat

Middle Body
- Hand gloves
- Fleece jersy or pullover
- T-shirts(several e.g 3)
- Parka, down or gortetex heavy jacket
- Rain jacket or umbrella

Lower Body
- Wollen trouser or fleece trouser
- Light trouser for hiking or pair of shorts
- Rain trouser -nylon is okay

- Hiking boots
- Three pairs of wollen socks

Other Personal Gear
- Sleeping bag
- Back pack
- Day pack
- Water bottle
- Torch with enough batteries and spare bulb

1. Mount Kenya

Day 1:  Nairobi – Naromoru
Depart from Nairobi in the morning at 0800hrs via Thika, arriving at Naromoru Youth Hostel in time for lunch. After lunch, you are dropped at the main gate where climbing starts. It is about 3-4 hours walk through the rainforests to metrological station hut where you will have dinner and overnight

Day 2:  Metrological Station – Mackinder’s Hut
After breakfast continue with the ascend to Mackinder’s camp, with packed lunch, arriving at the camp in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the camp (it is about 5-6hrs walk)

Day 3:  Mackinders – Lenana Point– Mackinders
Very early morning start at 0230hrs, attempt to climb point Lenana at 17,058ft.later commence your descent to Mackinder’s camp for meals and overnight

Day 4:  Mackinder’s – Met Station – Nairobi
After breakfast descend back to Met. Station camp, where you will be met by our driver who will drive you back to the Youth Hostel for lunch. Afternoon, drive back to Nairobi, drop off at the city

Day 1:  Departure from Nairobi is at 0930hrs to Nanyuki for dinner and overnight

Day 2:  After breakfast, vehicle transfer to Sirimon gate and hike to
Old Moses Camp (3300m) for overnight (6-8hrs hike)

Day 3:  Hike Shimpton’s Camp (4200m) for overnight (5-7hrs hike)

Day 4:  Attempt on point Lenana at 0300hrs and descend leisurely to Met. Station for dinner and overnight

Day 5:  Descend the mountain to Naromoru town with vehicle transfer back to Nairobi

Day 1:  Nairobi – Nanyuki
After breakfast meet our guide for briefing regarding the mountain and then proceed together with your guide to Nanyuki for lunch and later have an acclimatization walk in afternoon

Day 2:  Nanyuki –Sirimon Gate –Old Moses Camp
After breakfast proceed to Sirimon Park gate where upon completion of registration facilities you will start the hike to Old Moses Camp (3300m, 3-4hrs walk) for dinner and overnight

Day 3:  Old Moses Camp – Shiptons Hut
After breakfast, hike through the moorland viewing high altitude flowers and rodents. Ascend through the Mackinders valley with picnic lunch en-route and a superb view of the peaks ahead to Shiptons Camp (4200m, 6-7hrs) for dinner and overnight

Day 4:  Shiptons
Early morning ascend to point Lenana (4985m), after sun rise circumnavigate around the peaks and back to Shiptons for overnight (option acclimatization hike around the peaks before the final ascend to the peak Lenana)

Day 5:  Shiptons – Meru Mt. Kenya Bandas
After breakfast, traverse the peaks via Simba Col to Mintos Hut and hike down along the Gorges valley to Meru Mt. Kenya Banda for dinner and overnight in tents

Day 6:  Mount Kenya Bandas Campsite – Chogoria Village - Nairobi
After breakfast, hike through the tropical rainforest (6-7hrs) in the zone where we search for wildlife to Chogoria Village for lunch before you are transferred to Nairobi, arriving in late afternoon.

2. Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1:
 Depart Arusha and transfer to Capricon Hotel at the foot of the mountain. Dinner and overnight at Capricon Hotel

Day 2:  Morning walk through the Kilimanjaro forest and spend your night at Mandara Hut, 2,700 metres above sea level

Day 3:   Start trekking early in the morning up to Kibo Hut for dinner and overnight (3,720 metres above sea level)

Day 4:  The whole trekking will take you up to Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres A.S.L)through Gilman’s point (18,640 feet).From there descend going down to Horombo  hut for dinner and overnight

Day 5:
 The day is spent descending to Marangu and then to Moshi for afternoon shuttle to Nairobi



Day 1:  Moshi
Depart Arusha for Moshi .Dinner and overnight at Moshi Hotel

Day 2:  Mchame Hut
Drive to Mchame Village, the climb starts at the end of tarmac road. Walk through
shambas/farms then forest to the Mchame Hut (3000m, taking 6 hrs)

Day 3:  Shira Hut
Proceed along the steep ridge going on to rock ridges and through heather. The route turns west into a river gorge, reaching Shira Hut (3800m, 5hrs)

Day 4:  Baranco Hut
Continue east towards the lava tower. Shortly after this, descend to Baranco Hut (3940m, 4hrs)

Day 5:  Barafu Hut
A short scramble to the top of the great Baranco and then transverse overscree and ridge to the Karanga Valley (4000m, 3hrs). Beneath the icefalls of the Heim, Kersten and Decken glaciers, after climbing out the Karanga Valley,the trail ascends a ridge to the Barafu Hut. A bleak location with little vegetation (4600m, 3hrs walking)

Day 6:  Barafu Hut
Early morning start ascent to the rim of the Kibo Crater between the Rebbmann and Ratzel Glaziers,4hrs.the last section before the rim can be sometimes be snow-covered and an ice axe/ski stick is useful for balance. From here, a further hour leads to Uhuru Peak, from where there are often fine views of Mt. Meru to the west and the jagged peak of Mawenzi to the east. Descend to the Barafu  hut in the giant heather zone on the forest edge ,those with energy on the summit may wish to descend to the Reutsh Crater and visit the dramatic ice pinnacles of the eastern ice fields

Day 7:  Mweka – Arusha
A 3– 4 hours descend through beautiful forest brings you to the park gate and you wait for transport back to the hotel for overnight

Day 8:  Arusha- Nairobi
Depart after breakfast, transfer back to Arusha

3. Mount Meru

Day 1:  Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut
Pick up guests from their hotel in Arusha. Drive to Momella Gate (4566m) where the trekking starts. Follow the track through the forest and wild fig tree arch to a small clearing where we may see buffalos grazing. Proceed across the Jekukumia River and have lunch at Jeku View Point with Momella Lake and the plains beyond. Return to the track and proceed to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 2:  Miriakamba Hut – Shadow Hut
Walk through the gates and forest filled by black and white colobus monkeys to Mungongowa Tumble (Elephant Ridge) after breakfast. Arriving at Shadow Hut after 3-4 hrs for lunch .In afternoon continue to the summit of the little Meru for impressive view of the crater. Dinner and overnight at Shadow Hut

Day 3:  Shadow Hut – Miriakamba Hut
Rise early and walk along the very narrow ridge to the summit (4566m) watching the sunrise dramatically from behind Kilimanjaro. The return through Rhino Point provides spectacular view of Rift Valley, volcanoes of Kumbeni and Lengai and Arusha town. Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba Hut (10-12hrs)

Day 4:  Miriamba Hut – Momella Hut
On the final day, return to Momella Gate (2hrs), where the vehicle will be waiting. Game drive in Arusha National Park. Picnic lunch and connect to Nairobi by shuttle arriving in the evening
